OVOP table

We designed a 4-meter-long wooden table for the OVOP Shop in Georgia. OVOP (One Village, One Product) is a Japanese movement that promotes rural development by supporting unique local craftsmanship and resources through modern innovation. Inspired by this concept, we sourced long lamella wood locally, then joined and bonded each piece together. The table was carefully sanded and crafted by the local woodworkers KAO Furniture. The table consists of more than 250 lamellas joined together to form both the top and the legs — yet not a single screw is visible. Thanks to the precision of the craftsmanship, a hidden structural system has been integrated within each lamella: concealed steel support bars run through each of them, maintaining its strength and form. This innovative detail reinforces the OVOP concept, beautifully blending local regionality with contemporary design.

ジョージア首都ティビリシ市内の物販店 - OVOPの店内用に長さ４ｍに及ぶ特注のテーブルをデザインした。OVOP (One Village One Product) すなわち一村一品とは各地域がもつ独自の資源や特産品に注目し、世界に通用する特産品を1品ずつ生み出すことで、地域経済の活性化を目指す運動であり、７０年代に日本で提唱された。本プロジェクトではジョージアにおける一村一品をサーポートし、現地の特産品を販売、プロモートする物販店設計の一環として空間の中央へOVOPを象徴する大きな木製テーブルを設計した。テーブルを形成する細い木製の格子材は全てジョージアの村から現地調達、ジョージア人木工職人集団KAO FURNITUREの手で制作された。約２５０本以上の格子材を積み木のように積み上げて構成される本テーブルには構造用のビスが１本も見えないよう配慮されており、１本１本の格子に穴をあけて固定用の鉄棒を突き刺し固定するという、気の遠くなる作業を見事な職人魂でやり遂げて頂いた。こうした目に見えない努力を美学とする極めて日本的な思想とジョージアの素晴らしい素材、そして職人魂が融合され、まさにOVOPを体現するテーブルが誕生した。
